Lauren's Journey at Response
Joining Response
Lauren made the decision to apply for a job with Response as she wanted to start a career in the care sector. She had done some previous training and voluntary roles in the children’s sector but had not worked with adults or within the mental health sector before. Response were also able to offer Lauren a flexible working pattern to fit around her family.
Lauren's progression at Response
Lauren started off in Home Support working part-time before moving to a full-time position as a Project Worker. Later on, Lauren became a Senior Support Worker working within the Community Team where she has most recently been promoted to Deputy Manager as part of her Personal Development Plan, having completed her ILM Level 3 in Leadership and Management.
Why Mental Health?
Lauren explains 'I didn’t know I wanted to work in mental health initially, but since my first day in 2016 I haven’t looked back. I love working in mental health. No day is the same. I love the fact that I am playing a part in reducing the stigma that’s attached to those with mental health issues. I've really enjoyed my time working directly with residents- I wanted to make a change even if to just one person.
Now in my managerial role, I want to pass on my knowledge and experience to my team to help them to support residents in the same way.''
What would you say to someone looking to join Response?
Lauren's reply- ''Do it. If you join one area and aren't 100%, then you can move to another part of the organisation. Response are really flexible with that which is great. I have seen some great changes within Response and we are not finished yet. Onwards and upwards! We are still expanding and growing as an organisation, filling the gaps in the sector, so if you generally have a passion to help people, then sign up!''
